The Mimic
The Mimic pretends to be someone on your friends list and pops a fake “has joined” notice. It follows, then shows long black limbs and kills on contact. Legacy Mimic dealt 50 HP. That number is the old behavior.
What the Mimic does
One Mimic is in a server at a time, on every level and sublevel except the level selector. The Fandom page gives a spawn window of 7–20 minutes in an empty server and 3–6 minutes in a full one, plus a pity timer. The route guide confirms the disguise and the current one-hit kill, but it does not repeat those minute ranges, so I mark the clock as one source.
While disguised it can fake a jump, a spin, or a chat line. After it drops the costume it runs about as fast as you. A corner or a low wall slows it. If it fails to catch someone for about 25 seconds, or after it kills, it leaves. That 25-second line is also from the entity page alone.
How to tell, and the hanger
Open the player list, not the leaderboard. A name that is not actually in the server is the tell. A coat hanger hit knocks the current Mimic away and pays 20 shards. Before the 2.43 patch the same hit paid 35. Do not spend the whole stamina bar on a straight line; the speed match means corners do more than sprinting does.

Questions
Can you survive the Mimic?
Yes. Check the player list, break line of sight on corners, or hit it with a coat hanger.
Does it deal 50 damage?
That was Legacy. Current hostile entities, including the Mimic, kill on contact.
